Sidney Crosby has added yet another accolade to a long list of them.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain matched Mario Lemieux’s franchise points record of 1,723 against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, reaching a long-standing mark that has stood for decades.
Crosby tied Lemieux's mark with a goal in the first period.
Currently in his 21st NHL season, Crosby has spent his entire career with the Penguins after being picked first overall in the 2005 draft. He is already the team’s all-time leader in assists and games played.
A three-time Stanley Cup champion (2009, 2016, 2017) and two-time Hart Trophy winner as the NHL’s most valuable player (2007, 2014), the 37-year-old veteran from Cole Harbour, N.S., has accomplished nearly everything the sport has to offer.
He now sits tied for eighth on the all-time points list and 32 back of Detroit Red Wings legend Steve Yzerman for seventh.
